Project Overview
Red Rock Wind is a community-owned wind energy project based upon the concept of local, shared ownership and has the support of area landowners. Area investors have partnered with National Wind, to form and capitalize Red Rock Wind, LLC.
Red Rock Wind continues to accept new investments from landowners interested in the project. Under the shared ownership structure, everybody is an owner/partner in the wind farm and shares in the generated revenue from the project.
Be sure to check out the Project Progress section for the latest information of this wind farm’s progress.
The Location:
The proposed Red Rock wind farm is located in Northwestern Iowa, in Emmet and Dickinson counties near the town of Estherville, Iowa. The land is owned by local farmers who are investors or supporters of the project.
The Land:
The area in the wind farm is composed of mostly farm land. The wind farm will cover approximately 90 square miles of land in Emmet and Dicknson Counties, near the towns of Terril, Wallingford, and Estherville.
The Size:
The entire project area has sufficient land and wind resources for more than 300 megawatts (MW) of wind power development.
Number of Turbines:
The number of turbines has not yet been stipulated.
The Ownership Structure:
Local participation and ownership is the central theme to Red Rock Wind. Local ownership and development of the project requires a cooperative approach of a large contingent of area agricultural producers. The Commercial Operation Date:
The project is scheduled to come online in late 2011.
