National Wind Wins 'Green Business of the Year' Award

It is our pleasure to announce that National Wind, the developer behind Red Rock Wind Energy’s project, has recently won the Minnesota Environmental Initiative’s Green Business of the Year Award. The annual Minnesota Environmental Initiative Awards program pays tribute to innovative projects that have achieved extraordinary outcomes for Minnesota's environment by harnessing the power of partnership. This award recognizes National Wind’s unique business model of partnering with local communities to build utility-scale wind farms. In addition to the Red Rock project, National Wind currently has 11 families of wind farms or 4000 megawatts of energy in development throughout the Midwest and Plains States.

Although the award specifically recognizes National Wind’s achievements in Minnesota, the community-based business model that helped National Wind garner the distinction, is identical to Red Rock’s and all National Wind’s other projects across the Midwest. The early success and continuing development of Northwest Iowa’s wind farm shows that the winning results in Minnesota are being replicated elsewhere and the support and commitment of the Red Rock community has undoubtedly helped to make this special recognition possible.

The Minnesota Environmental Initiative is a 17-year-old nonprofit organization that works with utilities, nonprofits, private businesses and government groups to form partnerships towards the development of collaborative solutions to Minnesota's environmental problems. This is the first year that National Wind has competed for the award.
