Currently, Iowa has nearly 2,000 wind turbines installed that will produce about 2,800 MW of electricity annually. The Iowa legislature recently passed two bills that will further enhance wind energy development within the state. The first bill that Governor Chet Culver signed sets aside $1 million in tax credits for wind energy companies, and the second allows certain groups to qualify for the wind energy production tax credit. The tax credit is expected to attract more wind-related businesses to northwest Iowa. Currently there are five major wind energy manufacturers in the state.
